Media Spotlight: Krystal Novaton, SEM/Social Specialist

“Media Spotlight” is an ongoing series where we interview a wide range of professionals that make up our growing office. From traditional media to digital strategists, you’ll gain insight into the experts who make up the Media Works team. This week, we interviewed Krystal Novaton #MWSpotlight

How long have you been working in media/ advertising?

About five years or so! I started on a creative team then gradually found myself on the paid and social side of digital media.

Can you describe a day in your life at Media Works?

Media Works: Home Office Edition! I usually kickstart my day with the Girl Boss podcast and a strong cup of Cuban coffee in hand. The first 30 minutes is when I begin preparing for my day, filtering through emails or social comments. Around 10 – 10:30 AM is when the zoom party rolls in, and my sticky notes begin to dance around my monitor. As of right now, much of my day consist of brainstorming, researching, diving into analytics, presenting, and organizing. But who knows what Week 3 will look like?

Around 1:30 PM or so, I usually take a lunch break and a quick stroll in the neighborhood before diving right back into analytics and research. Before I know it, the hours zoom by, and its suddenly time to log off and head to the gym.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A colorful bedazzled mermaid!

What are some of the challenges of your position?

Some of the most challenging (but equally enjoyable) parts of my job is watching the campaign spend, managing client relationships, and keeping calm when s**t hits the fan.

What’s your all-time favorite ad campaign? What made it special?

The 2018 UEFA Champion’s League Pepsi Co. giveaway always jumps to mind when I get asked this question. The prize at hand was an all-expenses-paid trip to the UEFA Champions League game in Kyiv, Ukraine. Traveling and meeting so many individuals from all walks of life was heart-warming and very exciting. I got to encourage, and watch people of all ages share their love for soccer!

Name one Medium you use every day that you couldn’t live without.

Definitely Twitter.

Name a unique quality or talent that you bring to Media Works, and why it makes you an integral part of the MW Team.

A unique talent of mine is that I can hold my breath for over a minute – I guess this will prove useful a day where I have to speak a lot- just kidding! I’m an endless pit of ideas matched with lots of enthusiasm. For our team, that would make me a valuable resource.
